UWC Togo is a volunteer-led group dedicated to selecting and supporting students and their families for the UWC movement. Our members are passionate about education and international understanding, working together to create opportunities for young changemakers.
Its mission is to promote UWC to prospective students and parents by:
- Sponsoring an annual call for applications
- Reviewing and screening student application packages (personal essays, questions and recommendations)
- Hosting an intensive full-day selection weekend (interviews, individual and group activities) judged by a diverse, volunteer selection panel
- Fundraising for scholarships; and preparing and supporting selected UWC Togo scholars throughout their UWC journey.
Who forms the National Committee?
Our UWC National Committee is made up of individuals who share UWC’s mission and values. These include:
- Volunteers – Supporters of UWC who contribute their time and expertise to help select and guide students.
- UWC alums and their families – Former students who have attended UWC schools or short courses and their families, bringing firsthand experience of the UWC journey.
- Education professionals – Teachers, school administrators, and educators who are committed to nurturing young minds and promoting transformative education.
- Community leaders – Individuals from various sectors who support youth development and global citizenship.
Our history and impact
- Founded in 2019, UWC Togo has been selecting and supporting students for six (6) years.
- Over 462 applications received, reviewed and screened since 2019. Each year, we receive an increasing number of applications and carefully select students through our rigorous selection process.
- 100% of our students selected have received scholarships over the years, making UWC accessible to students from all backgrounds.
- 22 students from the different regions of Togo have attended UWC schools and colleges since the committee’s formation.
- 12 girls are UWC Togo scholars. We remain committed to maintaining a strong gender balance.
- 16 UWC Togo scholars have graduated from UWC Schools and Colleges.
Our commitment
- As part of the global UWC National Committee network, we adhere to UWC’s principles and selection standards.
- Our volunteers include many UWC alums who understand the experience firsthand and are dedicated to guiding new students.
- We maintain strong connections with UWC schools, colleges, and alumni to offer insights and support to students and their families throughout their journey.
